The colour of halogens in aqueous solution and 1,1,1-trichloroethane. Their colour changes slightly with concentration.
The presence of halogens can be confirmed using organic solvent eg 1,1,1-trichloroethane.
The layer of 1,1,1-trichloroethane will be at the bottom because it is denser, while the less dense aqueous layer will be at the top.

若只是把 halogen溶解在水中,我们比较难分辨谁是谁,所以会加 organic solvent 下去,不同 Halogen 的颜色就一目了然。不同参考书的资料也许会有些许不同,因为他们的颜色会受浓度影响而有所不同。^^ 下面那层是 1,1,1 - trichloroethane。
Chlorine
in solution: Pale yellow
in 1,1,1-trichloroethane: Pale yellow to colourless
Bromine
in solution: Reddish-brown
in 1,1,1-trichloroethane: Reddish-brown
Iodine
in solution: Yellowish brown
in 1,1,1-trichloroethane: Purple
